The program of postgraduate studies (M.Phil & Ph.D) in “Basic Medical Sciences” (BMS) has been launched by Peshawar Medical College (PMC) & in “Basic Dental Sciences” by Peshawar Dental College (PDC) in accordance with the regulations of Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) in line with Higher Education Commission (HEC) policy guidelines to promote multi-disciplinary approach focusing mainly on major subject of trainees’ choice.

The course work is designed specifically to update and extend the depth and breadth of knowledge and professional skills of the area of interest. The course will also promote interdisciplinary approach to produce versatile medical experts with advanced & broad based area of specialization. Cross- disciplinary collaboration will be promoted to develop diverse skills. In addition, these trainees will be exposed to current knowledge and skills of various related fields diagnostics procedures, medical education techniques, scientific communication & writing skills, bio informatics, e-learning (including computer skills) and medical ethics. Our goal is to produce knowledgeable, component and motivated basic medical sciences specialists who will actively participate in the development of medical profession as experts in their respective fields.

Specific Learning Objectives
After successful completion of M.Phil course, the trainees will:
  • Possess comprehensive theoretical knowledge about the major subject of his/her choice and sound background knowledge of the supportive and skill related course.
  • Be able to perform practical procedures efficiently by proper use of relevant equipment.
  • Be capable of conducting, presenting and writing research work/projects.
  • Be able to recognize ethical issues relating to the specialty and suggest remedial measures.
  • Be able to plane, organize and conduct undergraduate course in basic medical subjects.
  • Be able to design relevant assessment and evolution in their respective subjects.
  • Be capable of introducing the new concepts and methodologies in his/her relevant fields.
  • Be able to work as willing member of the team by cooperating and collaborating with other colleagues.

Selection Of Trainee Medical Officers for FCPS-II Training

Peshawar Dental College also induct trainees for FCPS-II training in dental specialties on NOC base through PGMI twice a year. MCPS trainees are also inducted twice a year in the recognized dental and medical specialties. The attached dental hospital is fully equipped, has sufficient patients load and dedicated senior faculty members and supervisors to train the postgraduate clinical trainees.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
General Administration
  • The Director Postgraduate Program will coordinate all the Postgraduate Programs.
  • Daily attendance will be marked separately during theory classes, lab sessions and clinical visits.
  • 80% attendance is mandatory to appear in final examinations
  • Casual leave will be granted only in emergency situations.
  • Sick leave in permissible on submission of valid medical certificate.
Library
  • The trainee can avail library facilities on all working day during the prescribed hours. However, he/she will have to follow the rules of library.
  • Any trainee, who loses, defaces or otherwise seriously damages any book, is liable to replace the same or pay the cost of the book. If the book is one of the set or series, the cost of the whole set or series will be charged for the concerned trainee.
Hostel Accommodation
  • Hostel accommodation will be subject to availability and will be given only after the full payment of accommodation fee according to the existing rules.
Identity Card
  • The trainees will be issued a non-transferable identity card having a recent photograph duly signed by the Director. This card must be kept by the trainee within the premises.
  • Duplicate cards will not be issued except under special circumstances and after permission from Director Postgraduate Department.
Course Distribution
  • M.Phil program is a full-time two years structured program spread over 4 semesters (Two semesters per academic year).
  • The program must be completed in HEC / University stipulated time.
